What if my child doesn't like piano lessons?
In general, children do what their parents guide them to do. If you believe that music should be part of their educational experience then gently encourage them to stick with it. Most children won’t make that commitment themselves. So, parental involvement is key to long term success. -
Is learning to play an instrument really that important? There are so many other options from which to choose.
“Musical activities will provide children with important experiences that can help them develop physical coordination, timing, memory, visual, aural, and language skills. When they work to increase their command of music and exercise musical skills in the company of others, they gain important experience with self paced, learning, mental concentration, and a heightened personal and social awareness.” American Music Conference. -
This is our first piano, does the quality really matter that much? After all, our child doesn’t even know how to play yet.
Purchasing your first piano is a serious matter. Most people keep their piano a very long time. And the beginner, like all players responds to a piano that sounds and feels good. It’s the bridge between the player and the beautiful music that’s waiting on the other side! -
What about used pianos?
Certainly an option but contrary to popular opinion – pianos do have a limited life span and are subject to wear and tear. They require much more scrutiny than other pianos which carry factory warranties.
In general, because of price, used pianos are easy to sell and to “be sold on” so proceed with caution.
So yes, consider carefully and seriously your first piano. It may be your only piano, and more importantly, your one chance to “hook” someone on the joys of playing the piano.
NaturalPianoCenter offers a wide selection of both used and new pianos (check them out!) so we have no particular agenda. However used pianos carry more inherent risk for the buyer and the seller.
Having been in business for forty-five years we value return customers and are especially prudent about our used pianos. Each one is painstakingly inspected and evaluated by experienced technicians. In addition, we offer a five year warranty and a 100% trade in policy on both our used and new pianos. -
What are the benefits of music?
There is confirming evidence from educational, as well as the musical community, that children who take piano lessons are capable of boosting their spatial IQs an average of more than 40% in less than three months of instruction.
The benefits to seniors include significantly improving the quality of life and feelings of well-being. Making music helps people to relax, feel better and deal positively with stress. Making music may also enhance the immune system function and help fight disease.

How can I help my child with his/her piano lessons?
What every parent should know about the power of piano lessons is teaching a child the 3C's: Concentration, Coordination, and Confidence.
Here are a few additional tips:- * Reading one line of music, playing a simple one-finger melody, teaches simple concentration
- * Reading one line of music, playing two or three notes with multiple fingers, teaches moderate concentration
- * Reading two lines of music, playing with both hands, each with a different assignment, teaches a high degree of concentration and coordination
- * Reading two lines, using both ears, both arms, fingers, legs and feet, with the brain giving each muscle a different assignment to perform simultaneously, teaches intense concentration and coordination resulting in confidence
